Praying with our bodies
When someone who is not familiar with the Catholic faith attends a Catholic Mass, one of the things that make them most anxious is knowing when to bow, genuflect, stand, sit, kneel, etc. We Catholics really move around a lot during Mass! In other types of prayer we may use different gestures and postures as well. But why do we do that? Here is a short explanation of how and why we pray with our bodies, as well as our hearts, minds, and voices. It also explains what the different postures of prayer mean.

Why Ashes?
On Ash Wednesday, we come to Mass or a service with the Liturgy of the Word, and ashes are rubbed on our forehead in the shape of a cross. Why do we do this? Read this explanation from a popular blogger on the LifeTeen website to find out!

confirmation connection
Wisdom is the first of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Wisdom helps us to see things the way God sees them. To be wise leads us to a great relationship with God and everyone else. Do you remember the other gifts of the Holy Spirit? The teens brought home a listing of the gifts and a reflection with it.
At baptism, we are baptized priest, prophet, and king. That means that we continue the work that Jesus did as priest, prophet, and king – building God’s Kingdom. At baptism, we receive the Holy Spirit to help us do this. When we celebrate Confirmation, we receive a strengthening of the Holy Spirit to help us even more as we grow older. As Catholic Christians, we call on the gifts of the Holy Spirit throughout our lives. Can you name a gift that can be strengthened? Ask the Holy Spirit. There’s a prayer for that:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever enjoy His consolations,
Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
